Kay at the APPG Meeting at Portcullis House, Westminster
Kay was one of only four industry speakers asked to address the All Party Parliamentary Group on Commercial Radio yesterday on behalf of the Audio Content Fund (ACF).
The Symposium was called to mark the work of the ACF and to discuss the future of public funding in audio production. The session was chaired by Andy Carter MP and attended by a range of parliamentarians and officials, including former Culture Secretary John Whittingdale.
Belle was chosen out of a total of 91 possible suppliers, so it was quite an honour to represent the industry.
Kay described our journey into radio from our original Captain Bobo series with John Sessions for national broadcaster; Fun Kids, the subsequent environmental Tigeropolis series for older children to our latest series – the Award-Winning ‘Stormy Weather’ presented by transport historian Tim Dunn.
She explained our experience in pitching to national broadcasters and our role in forming consortia of local community stations around the UK to further increase reach. Kay also spoke about our desire to increase the public benefit of our work through initiatives such as our Eco-Features on wildlife conservation and in making all 3 series available in Gaelic. In total we produced 30 new, original programmes (over 500 minutes) with support from the ACF.
