First Belle Books & Stories Podcast

Posted by Richard on April 24th, 2020

Kay hosted the first episode in our Belle Books & Stories Podcast series. She focused on Hurricane Hutch’s Top 10 Ships of the Clyde, the popular social history book about life on the Clyde that first introduced us to publishing.

Kay was joined by Michael McLaughlin, Head of Tourism for The Friends of TS Queen Mary to talk about the book and their work restoring this iconic vessel.

Michael explained what was involved in bringing TS Queen Mary back to the Clyde after an absence of nearly 40 years. It’s a ship close to Kay’s heart – unofficially it was her father’s favourite ship (even if it was only listed as No2 in Hurricane Hutch’s Top 10). Late last year Michael took Kay and her brother Glenn on a tour of the Queen Mary at her new berth near Glasgow’s Science Centre, updating them on the restoration work on this famous Clyde favourite.

In the podcast, Kay and Michael were also joined by Richard who talked about how he had helped Kay’s father set his stories down on paper.

  1. Throughly enjoyed podcast on TS Queen Mary. II. Interesting to hear from Michael McLaughlin what is proposed for future and hope the current coronavirus crisis doesn’t put the future plans too off course. Thanks for running this.
