Poppins promotes independent living, quality of life and community building.
The project was developed by Belle Media in response to Innovate UK’s Long Term Care Revolution initiative.
Poppins explored the potential for a virtual currency that helps change attitudes to how the elderly and vulnerable are treated in society and within the dynamics of the High Street. Central to the concept was the Poppins Shop, the RFID enabled Poppins Coins and a range of internet technologies. All were used in a counter-intuitive way.
Poppins brought people together to explore a unique archive of over 300 handpicked films and to enjoy digital skills training, events and talks. People were able to revisit their own life and times over the last 50 years.
The first trial site was opened in the Oak Mall in Greenock and involved working with over 30 local retailers as well as a range of media and training partners, including BBC, ITN Source, STV, Scottish Screen Archive and Getty Images.
